The visual vocabulary in this piece carries the trace of a dozen generations of workshop refinement, the neutral ground holding a pattern that earlier centuries would have read as familiar even if they would not have recognised the colour.
The piece took roughly 3 weeks at a single bench, two tufters carrying the field and a third hand finishing. The tufting gun pushed wool through a stretched cotton primary canvas in one continuous run for each colour. After the field was finished the back was sealed with natural latex and bonded to a cotton scrim, locking the loops in for the working life of the carpet. Finishing was hand work from end to end, a long-shear pass that defined the contour of every pattern element so the field reads three-dimensional under low light and flat under bright midday light. The change is part of how the design is meant to live.
The composition
The pattern reads in blue, the field opening into negative space at the edges so the rug breathes against the floor it sits on rather than fighting it. The design is the same in scale and weight as the seating around it; it does not insist on being looked at, but it carries the room when nothing else is in it.
The piece in a room
At 2'3" × 7'6" (69 × 229 cm) the rug holds the central area of a living room or a primary bedroom. The blue has enough weight to anchor a seating arrangement without flattening the rest of the palette. Position so the rug extends at least eighteen inches beyond the seating on three sides; the eye reads the negative-space frame as part of the composition.
Care
Vacuum weekly with the beater bar disengaged. Every tufted rug loses fibre to a beater bar regardless of price tier; suction is the right tool. Blot spills with white cotton, never rub. Light shedding is normal for the first six weeks of use as loose pile works itself out of the surface; the body of the rug is unaffected. Schedule a professional dry clean every three to four years to lift the embedded grit.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
