Description / LIMO Junior LMJU31 Modern Wool Handmade Carpet
The modern motif belongs to a long line of decorative grids that move from textile to textile across cultures. The version here was redrawn for the loom and holds the proportion that lets the pattern read at room scale rather than dissolving into a busy surface up close. The cartoon was studied in chalk before the wool was committed to the canvas, and the colour register was tested in small swatches before the first row of tufts was pulled.
The making took about 4 to 5 weeks in a small studio in India. Wool tufted through stretched cotton, latex-bonded, scrim-backed, hand-sheared to relieve the modern drawing. The pile depth is set by the gun and trimmed by hand, with the trim depth varied across the field so the figure reads above the ground without any visible boundary line between them.
The composition
Neutral grounds the field. The modern pattern holds the centre. The shear depth is calibrated so the figure sits two millimetres above the ground, which is what makes the pattern legible at sofa distance. Up close the relief reads as a quiet sculptural surface rather than as a flat graphic.
The economics
Hand-tufted wool sits between flatweave and hand-knotted on the price ladder, and at this scale it is the most economical way to bring a serious wool surface into a room without committing to the years and the budget that hand-knotting requires. The rug uses the same New Zealand wool that sits on the higher tiers; what you save is loom time, not material.
The piece in a room
At the size as listed, the rug works as a focal piece in a child's room or a study, anchoring a small seating arrangement or sitting in front of a single bed. A flexible ground for most palettes; pairs comfortably with both cool and warm rooms. The pile gives the surface a sculptural read up close while the modern pattern carries from across the room.
Care
Care is straightforward. Suction-only vacuum weekly. Spot-clean spills with a damp cotton cloth, working from the outside of the spot inwards rather than scrubbing into it. Light shedding is normal in the first month and tapers off without any intervention. A dry clean every two to three years keeps the colour fresh and the pile aligned.

Auspicious Placement
Vastu Guidance
Traditional Vastu Shastra recommendations for placing this carpet in your home. Choose based on the room and the corner you wish to ground.
Recommended direction: South-west (stability), or under the seating in the West / North-west.
Earth-tone carpets (red, ochre, terracotta, brown) in the South-west bring stability and grounding energy. Avoid covering the central Brahmasthan (centre) of the room; leave a small bare floor space.
Recommended direction: South-west or West side of the bed.
Soft pastels (cream, dusty rose, sage, blue-grey) work well in bedrooms for restful energy. Avoid bright reds at the head of the bed. Place the carpet so it extends 18–24 inches on each side of the bed.
Recommended direction: West or North-west zone.
Place carpet under the dining table such that all chairs sit on it when pulled out. Earth tones (terracotta, ochre, beige) and floral patterns are auspicious. Avoid black or dark blue under the dining area per Vastu.
Recommended direction: North-east corner of the home or the pooja room itself.
Auspicious colours: maroon, deep red, saffron, ivory, gold-yellow. Wool naturally resists fire risk near diya lamps. Use a small 2'×3' or 3'×5' size — larger carpets are not traditional in pooja spaces. Sit facing East or North while praying.
Recommended direction: Just inside the main door (East or North-facing entrance is ideal).
A small 3'×5' carpet at the entrance brings welcoming energy. Choose warm tones (red, ochre, gold). The carpet should be in good condition — frayed or stained welcome mats are considered inauspicious.
