Hand-tufted in India. Two to three weeks on the frame for two tufters, plus a finisher who shore the pile down to relieve the design. Cotton canvas backing, natural latex bond, cotton scrim sealed at the reverse. The construction sits a hair lighter than a knotted carpet of the same size, which is part of why a tufted rug travels and stores more easily.

The composition

Natural earth tones carries the field. The shearing relieves the secondary tones above the ground by a couple of millimetres, which is what makes the design read at room scale rather than dissolving into noise. Undyed wool gains contrast over the years rather than dulling. The piece reads cleanly under both warm and cool lighting; the wool itself is the source of the depth, not a printed surface treatment.
