Description / Antique Persian Moe Red Hand knotted Wool Carpet 2' 7'' X 4' 6''
About 60,000 hand-tied knots, paced over roughly three months of work. The Antique Persian Moe pattern belongs to the family of small-format classical Persian medallion drawings that workshops have kept in production for more than a century. The Moe motif takes its name from the layered medallion-and-pendant arrangement that defined the smaller pieces of the Persian repertoire; the drawing scales down without losing the architecture of the larger originals.
One senior weaver tied this carpet alone in India over roughly three months. Hand-spun wool on a cotton foundation, knotted at standard hand-knotted density. The red ground was achieved through madder-compatible dye, batched against a master strike-off, and balanced over multiple bath cycles to keep the saturation consistent end to end. The drawing above the red ground uses ivory, indigo, and ochre in restrained roles around the central medallion.
The composition
A red ground anchored by a central medallion drawn in ivory and indigo with secondary pendants. The corner spandrels echo the medallion's geometry, and a layered border carries a rosette repeat in deeper red and ivory. The colour is in the warm Persian register: a red that will mellow toward terracotta with age, ivory that will warm toward bone, indigo that will deepen rather than fade. The drawing reads at floor distance and reveals on close approach.
What you are buying
True antique small-format Persian carpets in comparable condition trade at auction in the range of $3,000 to $8,000. This is a new weaving in the same idiom, on the same kind of foundation, with the same hand-spun wool. The rug appreciates with use rather than depreciating; the wool patinas, the dye settles, and the drawing comes alive in the way only foot wear and household sun can make happen.
The piece in a room
3' x 5' (91 x 152 cm) is the working scale for a pooja room, a mandir niche, a foyer, or the side of a bed. The red and ivory palette reads warm against marble, sandstone, walnut, and brass. In a traditional Indian interior it is the rug under a deity or a low seat. In a modern interior it works as a focused colour event at the entry or beside a reading chair.
Conservation
Half-turn rotation each year. Suction-only vacuum, weekly. Blot spills with a clean cotton cloth. Small mandir rugs benefit from a specialist clean every four to five years because of incense and oil-lamp residue. With this regimen the carpet runs seventy years and improves through it; the red mellows, the indigo deepens, and the wool's hand softens.

Auspicious Placement
Vastu Guidance
Traditional Vastu Shastra recommendations for placing this carpet in your home. Choose based on the room and the corner you wish to ground.
Recommended direction: South-west (stability), or under the seating in the West / North-west.
Earth-tone carpets (red, ochre, terracotta, brown) in the South-west bring stability and grounding energy. Avoid covering the central Brahmasthan (centre) of the room; leave a small bare floor space.
Recommended direction: South-west or West side of the bed.
Soft pastels (cream, dusty rose, sage, blue-grey) work well in bedrooms for restful energy. Avoid bright reds at the head of the bed. Place the carpet so it extends 18–24 inches on each side of the bed.
Recommended direction: West or North-west zone.
Place carpet under the dining table such that all chairs sit on it when pulled out. Earth tones (terracotta, ochre, beige) and floral patterns are auspicious. Avoid black or dark blue under the dining area per Vastu.
Recommended direction: North-east corner of the home or the pooja room itself.
Auspicious colours: maroon, deep red, saffron, ivory, gold-yellow. Wool naturally resists fire risk near diya lamps. Use a small 2'×3' or 3'×5' size — larger carpets are not traditional in pooja spaces. Sit facing East or North while praying.
Recommended direction: Just inside the main door (East or North-facing entrance is ideal).
A small 3'×5' carpet at the entrance brings welcoming energy. Choose warm tones (red, ochre, gold). The carpet should be in good condition — frayed or stained welcome mats are considered inauspicious.
